Finals are over with, the pressure is off, I caught up with the multitude of to-dos that I'd been putting aside while frantically completing my projects, and actually took some time off to re-connect with friends ... yes folks, I do have a life. Just about. Now it's back to my joyous 'routine' (never been able to stick to one no matter how hard I try) of painting, art, and working on children's book illustrations. I'm catching up with the animal sketches for #The100DayProject primarily because it's so much fun, but also because I do need to learn something about drawing creatures as they'll eventually make their way into more books for kids. I hope.
Below is an in-progress shot of the above when I was sketching it while on duty at our exhibition in Banbury -- which is going really well by the way, and am really proud to be a part of it. Pop by if you're in the area. Details are up at our We're Here Now page ...
Some of you have asked me about the sketchbook I've been working in recently. I handed the previous one in as part of one of my college projects, so had to crack open a new one. Fortunately I'd bought two. Hadn't realised, when I purchased them, how much I'd enjoy working in these Stillman & Birn zeta sketchbooks.
They're perfect as I love very white paper and a smooth surface that not only takes fine pencil-work (I prefer my pencils very sharp and not too soft, a 2B is my fave) really well but works wonderfully with watercolour too. Quite yummy.
Drawn with Derwent water-soluble sketching pencils, painted with Winsor and Newton watercolours, in, of course, a Stillman & Birn zeta sketchbook. Cheers.
